The Bengaluru police have dismantled a sophisticated racket that forged documents to provide fake sureties for suspects seeking bail in criminal cases. Acting on a tip-off, the Halasuru Gate police arrested three suspects near the magistrate court complex on Nrupathunga Road, which led to the apprehension of 12 individuals in total.

Modus Operandi

The gang operated out of a hotel in Gandhinagar, using field workers to target individuals near the court complex in need of sureties. These field workers would direct the individuals to their accomplices, who fabricated fake documents using old records. They charged between ₹3,000 and ₹4,000 per document.

The police recovered a significant haul of items used for creating fake documents, including:

  • 139 fake Aadhaar cards
  • 43 ration cards
  • 16 PAN cards
  • 35 RTCs (Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crops)
  • A computer for document fabrication
  • A lamination machine
  • 12 mobile phones
