Bengaluru police recently intercepted a significant consignment of 318 kilograms of cannabis, valued at Rs 3.25 crore. The drugs were discovered when the Govindapura police acted on a tip-off, apprehending three individuals transporting the narcotics in a car. The trio was arrested on the spot, and the vehicle was confiscated as evidence.
Initial investigations revealed that the lead suspect, originally from Kerala, has a criminal record in drug trafficking and faces several ongoing cases in his home state. Authorities believe the cannabis was being smuggled into Bengaluru ahead of the New Year celebrations, when demand for illegal substances traditionally rises.
The police are currently expanding their investigation to uncover the full scope of the drug network, tracing the origins of the consignment and identifying any collaborators involved in the operation.
In a related development, Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) Narcotics Control Unit recently seized Rs 21.17 crore worth of illegal drugs in a major raid at the Foreign Post Office. In collaboration with Customs officers, the unit intercepted 606 parcels containing a wide variety of narcotics, including hydro ganja, LSD, MDMA, heroin, and ecstasy tablets. The drugs had been smuggled from international locations like the US, UK, and the Netherlands, using the Indian Postal Service. The authorities have also arrested several individuals as part of their ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
