Bengaluru: A routine bus journey turned violent on Thursday when a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) conductor allegedly slapped a passenger during a heated ticketing dispute. The incident occurred aboard bus KA-57 F-4029, which was operating from Devanahalli to Majestic.

According to a viral social media post that included video footage, the passenger claimed he was waiting for the conductor to issue a ticket throughout the journey. However, the conductor allegedly did not approach him, and the passenger was later fined by a ticket inspection squad for not having a valid ticket.

The situation escalated when the conductor confronted the passenger during the argument and allegedly slapped him. The video has since gained significant traction online, prompting widespread outrage.

BMTC complaint registered

The complainant and his friend reported the incident to both the police and BMTC. In response, BMTC acknowledged the grievance on X (formerly Twitter) and confirmed that it had been registered under docket number BMTC2025011158. However, an official statement addressing the incident is yet to be issued by the corporation.

Social media reactions and calls for accountability

The video sparked debate among commuters and residents, with many calling for disciplinary action against the conductor and improved monitoring of ticketing protocols. “Bangalore bus conductor, autowalas and taxi gangs are not fit to do their job… State govt and authorities encouraged them for this extreme behaviour instead of correcting them,” one user posted, warning of long-term implications if such incidents persist.

Pattern of complaints against BMTC staff

This is not the first time BMTC staff behaviour has come under public scrutiny. Previous reports have highlighted incidents of overcharging, verbal abuse, negligence, and physical assault by staff members. Commuters and civic activists have urged authorities to ensure stricter oversight, better training for staff, and prompt disciplinary measures to prevent further incidents.

Investigation likely

As the post continues to circulate, authorities are expected to investigate the conductor’s conduct and review CCTV footage to determine the sequence of events. Commuters hope the inquiry will lead to fair action and reinforce passenger safety protocols on city buses.
