Bengaluru: To strengthen last-mile connectivity for metro commuters, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has introduced and relocated bus stops closer to 10 metro stations along the Purple and Green lines following joint field inspections with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and the city traffic police.
The decision comes after repeated commuter feedback that several BMTC bus stops were located too far from metro station entrances, making intermodal transfers inconvenient, especially for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and daily office-goers. The revised stop locations came into effect from February 5.
Officials said the relocation exercise is aimed at reducing walking distance between bus and metro services and improving the overall public transport experience in the city.
Joint inspections led to changes
Transport authorities said the new bus stop placements were finalised after on-ground inspections conducted jointly by BMTC, BMRCL and traffic police teams. The teams studied pedestrian movement, road width, traffic flow and safety aspects before approving the new points.
At several stations, passengers earlier had to walk well beyond 100 metres or cross busy junctions to access bus services. The new arrangements place bus stops near specific metro entrances wherever feasible.
Where space constraints or traffic engineering limitations prevented new stops, existing arrangements have been retained.

Other stations already covered
BMRCL said that at all other metro stations across the network, BMTC bus stops are already available within about 100 metres of station entrances. In certain locations, however, additional stops could not be introduced due to lack of road space, traffic safety concerns or junction design constraints.
Officials indicated that further micro-adjustments may be taken up in phases based on commuter feedback and traffic studies.
Airport connectivity strengthened
Authorities also confirmed that Vayu Vajra airport bus services are now better integrated with metro access points. Dedicated Vayu Vajra bus stops have been provided at metro stations along the airport bus corridors.
This enables passengers travelling to Kempegowda International Airport to board or alight airport buses directly at metro stations, improving multimodal connectivity and reducing transfer hassle.
Conclusion
The relocation of bus stops near key metro stations marks a coordinated push to improve seamless public transport usage in the city. With closer interchange points between BMTC and metro services, officials expect higher ridership, shorter transfer times and better last-mile convenience for daily commuters.
