In a heartwarming incident that reaffirmed public trust and human values, a Bengaluru woman recovered a bag containing gold jewellery worth nearly ₹10 lakh, thanks to the honesty and swift action of staff from Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

Jewellery lost in crowded bus

The incident occurred on January 31. Around 12.30 pm, the woman boarded a BMTC bus from KR Market, intending to travel towards Kanakapura. She had purchased a ticket only up to Basavanagudi, planning to change buses there.

Due to heavy weekend rush and a large number of students travelling, the bus was extremely crowded. In her hurry to alight at Basavanagudi and catch another bus, she accidentally left behind a bag kept near her seat.

Only after stepping down did she realise the bag — containing gold ornaments worth approximately ₹10 lakh — was missing.

Police and BMTC act swiftly

Distressed by the loss, the woman immediately approached the Basavanagudi police station and filed a complaint. Acting promptly, police officials contacted the BMTC central office and shared details of the bus route and vehicle.

BMTC authorities quickly traced the bus and alerted the concerned driver and conductor.

Honest conductor saves the day

During a careful inspection of the bus, conductor Ganga Poojari found the unattended bag near the seat where the woman had been sitting. Without knowing its value, she secured it safely and reported the recovery.

The woman was later asked to come to the Padmanabhanagar Depot, where the conductor personally handed over the bag in the presence of officials.

An emotional reunion

Overcome with relief, the woman broke down in tears after receiving the bag, believing it had been lost forever. It was only later that the conductor realised the bag contained jewellery worth nearly ₹10 lakh, leaving her equally shocked.

The incident has drawn widespread appreciation for BMTC staff, highlighting how integrity and alertness among public transport employees continue to protect commuters in the city.
