Burglars targeted the house of businessman Kamran Shaik in Shanti Nagar, Bengaluru, making away with gold ornaments, silver items, cash, and other valuables worth around Rs 21 lakh while the family was away in Tamil Nadu.

Incident details

According to the complaint filed by Kamran (40), the family had left their residence on October 3 at 11:45 pm to visit a relative in Salem, Tamil Nadu. The next morning, around 9:40 am, Kamran’s father-in-law noticed the front door ajar and immediately informed him about the possible break-in.

The family returned to the city around 1 pm to discover the extent of the burglary. Among the stolen items were:

  • Gold ornaments including a necklace, two Turkish-design necklaces, a gold mangalya chain, three pairs of gold earrings, gold and diamond rings, and nose rings
  • Silver earrings and silver anklets kept in the almirah
  • Two mobile phones from the cupboard
  • Cash of Rs 50,000 from the mother-in-law’s bedroom almirah

The total estimated loss amounts to Rs 21 lakh.

Police action and investigation

Ashok Nagar police have registered a case under Section 305 (theft in a dwelling house, or means of transportation or place of worship) and Section 331 (punishment for house-trespass or housebreaking).

Authorities are currently analysing CCTV footage in the area to track the burglars and identify possible leads. Residents in the locality have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.

Police have reiterated the importance of securing homes, especially when families travel, and ensuring doors, windows, and safes are properly locked. The public is also encouraged to install surveillance cameras and alarm systems to deter such criminal activity.
