Former Prime Minister and Rajya Sabha MP HD Deve Gowda was admitted to Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road in Bengaluru on Tuesday after developing an infection, officials said.

Hospital confirms stable condition

In a statement released by the hospital, authorities said that the 92-year-old Janata Dal (Secular) supremo is under the observation of a team of medical specialists.
His progress is being monitored by a team of medical experts,” the hospital said, without providing further details about his condition or the nature of the infection.

Family sources confirm fever before admission

Family sources revealed that Mr. Deve Gowda developed a high fever on Monday night and was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. “He had a mild fever and weakness, so the family decided to admit him for further evaluation,” a family aide said.

The former Prime Minister, who continues to remain active in political and public life despite his age, has had occasional health check-ups at the same hospital in the past.

Background

HD Deve Gowda served as the 11th Prime Minister of India from 1996 to 1997 and has been a key figure in Karnataka and national politics for over five decades. He is currently a Rajya Sabha MP representing Karnataka and the national president of the Janata Dal (Secular) party, which recently allied with the BJP ahead of the upcoming state and national elections.
