Bengaluru: Tension gripped commuters under the Lingarajapuram flyover on Hennur Main Road on Thursday evening after a pillion rider pulled out a dagger in full public view during a road rage incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident unfolded when a goods vehicle allegedly denied right of way to a two-wheeler. Upset by the denial, the pillion rider pulled out a dagger and began waving it at the vehicle.
Dramatic visuals caught on video
A 44-second video of the episode, recorded by a passerby, has since gone viral. It shows the man brandishing the weapon and allegedly threatening the goods vehicle driver. In his second attempt, the pillion rider managed to damage the windshield of the vehicle using the dagger.
A bystander intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further, stopping the pillion rider from physically attacking the driver.
Commuters left shaken
Eyewitnesses said the sight of the weapon left passersby shocked and alarmed, especially since the stretch under the flyover witnesses heavy vehicular movement and is often a site of heated arguments.
Motorists expressed concern about rising cases of road rage in Bengaluru, with several incidents in recent months leading to violent assaults. “Seeing someone pull out a dagger like this makes us question how safe our roads really are,” one commuter said.
Police action awaited
As of now, the pillion rider remains unidentified, and police are expected to examine the viral video to track him down. Authorities are likely to register a case of criminal intimidation and damage to property once the accused is identified.
The incident has once again put the spotlight on road rage and weapon-related offences in Bengaluru, raising fresh concerns over commuter safety.
