Deepak Shenoy, founder and CEO of Capitalmind, recently took to social media to share an unexpected experience—his ₹6 bus fare to his Bengaluru office. Shenoy, known for offering insights on topics like AI, food delivery, and travel, had always walked to work for 30 minutes. However, after a knee injury, he decided to give public transport a try, only to be stunned by how inexpensive it was.
“I took a bus for ₹6 today and walked 30 min to office. I’m still stunned that there’s something that costs ₹6,” Shenoy wrote, sharing that the bus had a UPI QR scanner, making the fare payment seamless. This simple yet surprising discovery has garnered attention online.
Many users praised Shenoy for promoting public transport, noting that a well-run system could transform commuting in India. “Safety, reliability, and affordability are key for any successful transport system,” one user pointed out. Another highlighted how affordable transportation is essential for improving the lives of India’s lower and middle classes, calling it a game-changer for both locals and migrants.
Interestingly, some pointed out that ₹6 isn’t an absurdly low amount—citing affordable food options like Amma Canteen’s meals priced between ₹3 to ₹6. Even everyday items like Parle-G biscuits still cost as little as ₹5, making Shenoy’s experience a relatable one for many.
