Daily commuters travelling through Chamarajapete and Mysuru Road continue to face intense traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours, prompting the state government to propose a major infrastructure upgrade.
Flyover extension proposed
Responding to concerns raised in the Legislative Council by MLC K. Shivakumar, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar confirmed that the government plans to extend the existing flyover from Sirsi Circle up to the BHEL-Kimco junction.
The proposal follows a detailed feasibility study conducted over the past two years to address persistent traffic bottlenecks along the busy Mysuru Road corridor.
The estimated cost of the project stands at ₹810 crore, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently under preparation. The proposal is presently under administrative consideration, with further approvals awaited.
Ongoing works in surrounding areas
In parallel, infrastructure improvements are already underway in key stretches such as Nayandahalli and Rajarajeshwarinagar. Road development works, including asphalting from the Rajarajeshwarinagar main road arch up to Kengeri Road, are being carried out at a cost of ₹75 crore and are nearing completion.
These upgrades are expected to provide partial relief to commuters who navigate the corridor daily.
No alternative corridors planned
The government has clarified that, at present, there are no plans to introduce alternative routes such as tunnel roads or parallel corridors along stormwater drains to further ease congestion beyond the existing metro connectivity.
Commuters continue to struggle
Despite these proposed and ongoing measures, commuters continue to face significant delays due to heavy vehicular movement, especially during morning and evening rush hours.
The proposed flyover extension is expected to play a crucial role in improving traffic flow and reducing travel time once implemented, offering long-awaited relief to thousands of daily commuters.
