Bengaluru: Govindarajnagar police nab burglary gang

A gang of four habitual burglars who targeted locked houses was arrested by Govindarajnagar police recently. The police recovered around 475 grams of gold ornaments and a luxury car worth ₹44 lakh from the accused.

The arrested men have been identified as Mohammed Fayaz, 59, and Mohammed Faraz, 35, both from Mysuru; Bhudesh Gowda, 52, from Chikkamagaluru; and Prasad, 49, from RT Nagar, Bengaluru.

Habitual offenders with multiple cases

According to police, all four have a history of housebreakings across the state. Fayaz, a scrap dealer, is involved in 25 cases. Faraz, who works as a car driver, has 13 cases against him. Gowda, a labourer, has been linked to five cases, while Prasad, also a driver, is implicated in 18 cases.

Police officials said the gang’s modus operandi was to monitor neighbourhoods, identify locked houses during daytime, and break into them.

Burglary in Mudalapalya cracked

The latest case involved the house of Basavaraju M, an engineer residing in Panchasheelanagar, Mudalapalya, in west Bengaluru. On July 17, his mother locked the house and went to a nearby market around 3.30 pm to buy vegetables. She returned half an hour later to find the front door ajar.

The burglars had stolen a 40-gram silver bracelet worth ₹4,000, along with a passport from the almirah. Following the complaint, police reviewed CCTV footage from the locality.

Arrest and recovery

Based on the evidence, police tracked down and arrested two suspects from Pattegarepalya. During interrogation, the duo confessed not only to the Mudalapalya burglary but also to crimes committed in different parts of Bengaluru, Bidar, Hassan, Hubballi, and Chitradurga.

Their information led to the arrest of the remaining two accused, after which police recovered gold ornaments and the ₹44 lakh car. In total, the investigation helped solve nine burglary cases across Karnataka.

Conclusion

With the arrest of Fayaz, Faraz, Gowda, and Prasad, police believe they have cracked a major network of housebreakers operating in Bengaluru and other districts. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and use CCTV surveillance and safety measures to prevent similar crimes.
