Four people lost their lives after an LPG tanker crashed into a divider at a toll plaza in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district and burst into flames on Thursday, triggering a massive fire and panic in the area.
According to police, the tanker reportedly lost control before slamming into the divider at the toll plaza. The impact caused LPG to leak rapidly, creating a highly combustible environment.
Within moments, the leaked gas ignited, engulfing the tanker in a massive fireball.
Driver trapped inside cabin
Police identified the driver as Dharmendra Dwivedi, who was trapped inside the cabin and died in the blaze. Three others also lost their lives in the incident, taking the death toll to four.
Emergency services rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a challenging operation. Authorities also secured the area to prevent further accidents and ensure public safety.
The explosion caused panic among commuters, with visuals of the towering flames circulating widely on social media.
Probe underway
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether mechanical failure, driver error or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
Officials are also examining whether all prescribed safety protocols for transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) were followed.
