A tragic road accident occurred on the BGS flyover in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving two young men dead and one critically injured. The incident took place around 1:30 am, prompting a distress call to the police control room.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found two motorcycles toppled on the road, with three men lying injured and another seated nearby. All victims were quickly transported to Victoria Hospital for emergency medical attention.
One of the victims, Akash, who was riding a bike registered as KA 02 KW 4546, was pronounced dead on arrival. His pillion rider, Mani (also known as Sanju), recounted that they were speeding on the flyover when Akash lost control and collided with an electric two-wheeler ahead of them.
The second bike, an electric scooter with registration KA 19 HS 9534, carried Afzal and Qasim. Both were thrown off due to the impact. Friends rushed them to a private hospital in Goraguntepalya, where Afzal succumbed to his injuries. Qasim remains critical in the ICU.
Mani, who survived with a fractured leg, informed authorities that the speed and lack of control led to the accident. Akash reportedly sustained severe head, facial, and leg injuries.
Police are investigating further to determine whether additional factors like intoxication or helmet use played a role.
This incident serves as a grave reminder of the dangers of overspeeding, especially during night hours on high-elevation roadways.
