IndiGo Airlines has begun construction on a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru, marking a key milestone in its growth strategy.
The MRO hub, spread over 31 acres of land allotted by Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), will become one of India’s largest aircraft servicing centres by its expected completion in early 2028. It will triple the capacity of IndiGo’s existing MRO operations in Delhi and Bengaluru combined.
Equipped with 12 bays to service both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, the facility will support IndiGo’s growing fleet of 400+ aircraft. CEO Pieter Elbers noted the project enhances the airline’s footprint in Bengaluru, where it already operates over 200 daily flights.
Beyond expanding capacity, the facility will improve aircraft turnaround times, reduce maintenance costs, and boost fleet readiness — all while aligning with India’s vision for a self-reliant aviation ecosystem. It is also projected to generate over 1,000 jobs across engineering, technical, and support roles.
Construction commenced in July 2025, just two months after IndiGo signed the land deal with BIAL.
The move is also seen as a major push toward strengthening Karnataka’s aerospace and defence sectors, further cementing Bengaluru’s status as an aviation and tech hub.
