Swapnil Nagesh Mali, a 30-year-old senior associate consultant at Infosys, who was arrested and later released on bail for secretly recording a female colleague in the office restroom, has admitted to police that he had filmed at least one more woman at the workplace.
During questioning, Swapnil confessed he found “satisfaction” in watching such videos and stored over 50 similar clips on his phone. Originally from Ram Nagar in Maharashtra’s Sangli district, he is a BE graduate and the son of a farmer. Police said his parents were shocked and devastated upon learning of his arrest.
According to the victim’s complaint, around 11 am on June 30, she entered the washroom and noticed a reflection on the cubicle door. She soon realised someone was pulling an object from the adjacent stall. Alarmed, she stepped out, then climbed onto the commode to check, and saw Swapnil standing on the toilet recording her, his trousers pulled down.
When confronted, Swapnil repeatedly apologised. The victim ran out and alerted colleagues, while housekeeping staff stopped Swapnil from escaping.
Later, the victim and an HR staff member inspected his phone, found the video, took a screenshot as proof, and deleted the clip—though police later recovered it because it wasn’t permanently erased.
After informing her husband, the victim filed a police complaint on July 1.
When presented in court, the magistrate noted that the offences carry less than seven years’ imprisonment and directed police to follow due process and grant station bail, cautioning that any procedural lapses could weaken the case.
