A shocking murder case has come to light in Bengaluru, where a 20-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her live-in partner following a heated argument at their rented accommodation in the city’s Malleswaram area.

The accused, identified as 27-year-old Sharath, worked as a water tanker driver and hailed from Sakleshpur in Hassan district. According to police, he had been living with the victim, Anusha, for the past six months after the two developed a relationship.

Relationship began through Instagram

Police said Sharath and Anusha first became acquainted through Instagram about a year ago. Over time, the friendship grew closer, and the couple eventually decided to live together in Bengaluru.

Investigators said the incident occurred on Saturday night when the couple allegedly consumed alcohol and later became involved in an argument over personal and family-related matters.

According to police officials, the altercation escalated, and Sharath allegedly strangled Anusha to death during the quarrel.

Advocate alerted police

The crime came to the attention of authorities two days later after Sharath reportedly approached an advocate following the incident. The advocate subsequently informed the police, prompting immediate action.

A team from the Sheshadripuram Police Station visited the residence on Monday and conducted an inspection of the scene. Based on the information gathered, police detained and later arrested the accused.

Police Inspector S. Balakrishna stated that the accused and victim had been in a relationship for about a year and had moved in together six months ago before the fatal incident occurred.

Investigation underway

A murder case has been registered, and investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the death. Police are also recording statements from relatives, neighbours and other potential witnesses as part of the investigation.

Anusha’s body was shifted to KC General Hospital in Malleswaram for a post-mortem examination. Following the completion of legal formalities and medical procedures, the body will be handed over to her family.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns about violence within intimate relationships and the tragic consequences of unresolved conflicts.
