Bengaluru: The SSLC Examination-1 results were announced across Karnataka on Thursday, with regular fresh students achieving a historic pass percentage of 94.1 per cent, a sharp rise from 80.04 per cent recorded last year.
A total of 7,70,209 students appeared for the examination, out of which 7,24,794 successfully passed, reflecting a significant improvement in overall academic performance.
Minister credits collective effort
Announcing the results, Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for School Education and Literacy, attributed the achievement to the combined efforts of students, parents, teachers, legislators, and education department officials.
He emphasised the role of state-level parent-teacher meetings in enhancing awareness among parents about their responsibilities in supporting their children’s education. According to him, such initiatives have contributed to improved student outcomes across the state.
Toppers achieve perfect scores
Six students emerged as state toppers by securing a perfect score of 625 out of 625. Notably, one of the toppers is from a government school in Athani taluk of Chikkodi district, highlighting the growing academic competitiveness among government institutions.
The achievement reflects not only individual excellence but also the strengthening of academic standards in schools across Karnataka.
Digital access to marks cards
Students can now access their marks cards digitally through DigiLocker. Authorities have also confirmed that physical copies of marks cards will be issued, ensuring accessibility for all students.
The move towards digital access is part of the broader push for technology integration in education and administrative processes.
No third exam this year
In light of the high pass percentage, the government has decided not to conduct a third examination this year. However, students who wish to improve their scores will have the opportunity to appear for the second examination scheduled between May 18 and May 25.
Officials noted that this approach balances recognition of overall success while still providing scope for academic improvement.
Significant drop in third language failures
A notable trend in this year’s results is the sharp decline in the number of students failing in the third language subject. Around 1,500 students failed in this category, compared to over 50,000 students in the previous year.
This improvement indicates better preparedness and targeted interventions in language education.
Conclusion
The 2026 SSLC results mark a milestone for Karnataka’s education system, with record-breaking pass percentages and improved subject performance. While the results highlight progress, continued focus on quality education and consistent performance will remain key to sustaining these achievements in the years ahead.
