In a startling incident on Sunday evening, a large rain tree collapsed in the Vyalikaval area of Bengaluru, causing significant damage to at least two cars and four bikes. The tree fell behind the police station in a densely populated part of the neighbourhood.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but the incident drew a large crowd of onlookers to the scene. The presence of the fallen tree in such a thickly populated area sparked concern among local residents.
The BBMP’s forest cell quickly responded to the situation, arriving on the scene to clear the tree and restore normalcy. Their prompt action ensured that the area was secured and that any potential risks were mitigated.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by ageing trees in urban areas, particularly during the monsoon season when the ground becomes saturated and tree roots can weaken. Residents have expressed the need for regular inspections and maintenance of trees in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future.
