Bengaluru police have arrested a 40-year-old business manager in Jayanagar for allegedly stealing gold ornaments and cash from his employer’s home over a span of eight years.

The accused, identified as Karthik, had been employed by the complainant for two decades. The employer’s office operated from his residence in Jayanagar 8th Block. The theft came to light on July 26 when the complainant noticed the disappearance of gold jewellery and ₹9 lakh in cash from a cupboard, immediately suspecting his long-time employee.

A theft case was filed at Jayanagar Police Station, and Karthik was arrested on July 28 from the same premises. Officers seized ₹7,100 in cash and a duplicate cupboard key from him. During questioning, he admitted to making a secret duplicate key eight years earlier to repay significant personal loans. He would steal valuables whenever the family was away, later pledging and selling the jewellery at a Thyagarajanagar shop and a finance firm. The proceeds were partly used to buy silver items.

Between July 31 and August 2, police recovered 1.04 kg of gold from the jewellery shop and finance firm, along with 1 kg of silver articles from Karthik’s home. The total value of recovered property is estimated at ₹89.09 lakh.

Karthik was produced in court on July 29 and remanded to eight days in police custody before being shifted to judicial custody on August 5.
