The body of 19-year-old Sneha Debnath, a Delhi University student who had been missing since July 7, was discovered in the Yamuna River under the Geeta Colony flyover, Delhi Police confirmed on Sunday. The recovery concludes a week-long search launched after a suspected suicide note was found at her South Delhi residence, ANI reported.

Sneha, a B.Sc. Mathematics (Honours) student at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, had messaged friends and family on the morning of her disappearance, expressing severe emotional turmoil.

According to investigators, her family located a note suggesting she planned to jump from Signature Bridge. A cab driver later confirmed dropping her there, and technical surveillance placed her phone at the location. Witnesses reported seeing a young woman standing alone near the edge of the bridge at sunrise before she vanished from sight.

Police filed an FIR at Mehrauli Police Station under Section 140(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A coordinated search with the National Disaster Response Force spanned from Nigam Bodh Ghat to Noida. The operation led to the recovery of a body matching Sneha’s description and attire.

Friends described Sneha as withdrawn and visibly distressed in recent months. On July 7, she sent farewell emails and messages that triggered immediate concern.

While preliminary findings point to drowning, authorities have ordered a forensic autopsy to confirm the cause of death and rule out foul play.

Sneha, originally from Sabroom, South Tripura, had moved to Delhi for her studies.
