In a disturbing escalation following the murder of 13-year-old Rohith, his grieving relatives allegedly attacked the family of an 18-year-old girl accused in the case. The incident took place on Monday in Mavanatti village, near Anchetti in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district.
Rohith, a Class 8 student, was found murdered last Wednesday. Police have arrested P. Madevan (21), M. Madevan (21), and the 18-year-old girl in connection with the crime. The motive is believed to be that Rohith had witnessed Madevan and the girl together in a secluded spot, possibly prompting the murder to silence him.
Despite police presence in the village to prevent unrest, over ten individuals—including Rohith’s relatives—stormed the girl’s home on Monday morning. Her father, mother, and elder sister were reportedly assaulted. The attackers also demanded that the elder sister be taken into custody, suspecting her of having a hand in the killing.
The injured family members were first treated at the Anchetti Upgraded Primary Health Centre and later shifted to the Denkanikottai government hospital for further care.
The Anchetti police have registered the incident and taken statements from those involved. Investigations are underway, both into the original murder case and Monday’s retaliatory assault. Authorities are continuing to monitor the area for any further outbreaks of violence.
