BENGALURU: With the New Year just around the corner, ganja peddlers have ramped up their activities in Bengaluru. To evade police scrutiny, smugglers have begun using trains as a means of transporting the narcotic into the city.

Despite the establishment of checkpoints by the local police to combat the distribution of ganja and other drugs, the traffickers have found a clever route. They are now utilizing trains like the Prashanti and Hatia Express to bypass the usual police inspections.

The ganja is being sourced from regions like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha, where its cultivation is prevalent. The traffickers are concealing the drugs in trolley bags, blending them with other luggage to stay under the radar.

In a recent operation, Railway Police successfully intercepted a shipment of ganja valued at Rs 1 crore, arresting eight individuals linked to the illegal trade. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.

The peddlers are targeting partygoers, particularly those preparing for New Year celebrations, aiming to supply drugs for the festivities. In response, law enforcement is on heightened alert to stop the flow of ganja and other illicit substances into Bengaluru.
