Mangaluru CCB nabs drug peddler with 6.7 kg ganja in Mulki

In a determined effort to establish a “Drugs-Free Mangaluru,” the city’s CCB police arrested a man for trafficking and distributing prohibited narcotics. The bust led to the confiscation of 6.7 kilograms of marijuana.

Acting on reliable intelligence, the CCB team raided the Mulki Bappanadu locality. The suspect was found to have sourced the contraband from Mumbai, Maharashtra, intending to sell it in the Mulki area, targeting both the general public and students.

The arrested individual, identified as 30-year-old Akhilesh Shetty from Seethanilaya, Ambalpadi Post, Udupi, was caught with 6.7 kg of marijuana valued at ₹1,62,000. The police also seized a mobile phone and ₹660 in cash, making the total value of seized items ₹1,63,000. A case has been filed at the Mulki police station.

Investigations revealed that Akhilesh would travel by train from Mumbai to Mangaluru, smuggling ganja to fund a lavish lifestyle. He targeted students and locals, aiming for quick illegal earnings.

The accused has a history of criminal activity, with six cases already lodged against him. His record includes theft charges in Mangaluru, drug cases in Udupi’s Malpe, assault cases in Hiriyadka, and substance abuse-related offenses at the Udupi CEN Crime police station.

The operation was led by ACP Manoj Kumar Naik, supported by inspectors Shyam Sundar HM, PSI Sudeep MV, and ASIs Ram Poojary and Sheenappa, along with dedicated CCB staff.
