Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended Aziz Ahmed, also known as Jaleel Aziz Ahmed, a key accused in the Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tahrir case, at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Friday. The arrest was made while Ahmed was reportedly attempting to flee the country.

The Case

The NIA had registered a case against six individuals allegedly influenced by the ideology of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, a fundamentalist group that aims to establish an Islamic caliphate and enforce a constitution based on the writings of its founder, Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani. The group is also accused of seeking military assistance from forces hostile to India to achieve its objectives.

Arrest and Charges

According to an NIA statement, Ahmed was identified as the main initiator of “secret meetings” where youths were “radicalised” with Hizb-ut-Tahrir’s ideology. His arrest at the airport marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the activities of the group.

The NIA’s efforts to apprehend Ahmed were crucial in preventing his escape and ensuring that he faces justice for his alleged role in the radicalisation efforts. Further investigations are expected to shed more light on the extent of the group’s operations and its impact on national security.
