Bengaluru saw over 40 individuals sustain eye and burn injuries due to firecrackers during the Deepavali celebrations, hospital authorities reported on Friday. The Minto Ophthalmic Hospital recorded six eye injuries by 2 PM on Friday, with five of the affected individuals being children. Additionally, Victoria Hospital reported four burn injury cases.

Narayana Nethralaya noted a significant rise in firecracker-related eye injuries, documenting 15 cases between October 31 and November 1 (until 11 AM). Dr. Rohit Shetty, Chairman of Narayana Nethralaya, highlighted that the injuries ranged from mild corneal abrasions to severe conditions such as hyphema and epithelial defects.

Shankara Eye Hospital treated two severe cases on Deepavali day and an additional 12 cases on the following day. Shekar Eye Hospital reported four eye injuries, including a 13-year-old with a corneal abrasion and a seven-year-old who suffered a chemical injury from firecrackers.

During this period, Bengaluru Police registered 56 cases of firecracker regulation violations. In line with Supreme Court directives, the use of firecrackers was allowed only between 8 PM and 10 PM during the festival.
