Former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, broke down emotionally in a special court in Bengaluru on Saturday, just a day after being convicted of raping a 47-year-old domestic worker.
Revanna, visibly shaken, wept inside the courtroom, as he awaited sentencing. The court is expected to announce the quantum of punishment at 2:45 pm today.
On Friday, Judge Santosh Gajanana Bhat found Revanna guilty of multiple charges, including rape, sexual harassment, voyeurism, destruction of evidence, and violations under the Information Technology Act. The verdict comes 14 months after his initial arrest, and notably, within eight weeks of the trial’s formal start.
Revanna was present in court at the time of the verdict. His legal team declined to comment following the proceedings.
This high-profile case has triggered widespread public and political reactions. The gravity of the charges, combined with Revanna’s political lineage, has intensified public scrutiny.
Meanwhile, another explosive allegation emerged, with the father of an RG Kar Medical College victim accusing the CBI of shielding rapists, vowing to expose the truth soon.
All eyes are now on the court, which will determine the sentence for one of the most controversial criminal convictions involving a sitting or former lawmaker in recent years.
