A 20-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh has been detained for the alleged killing of his expectant wife at their leased apartment in Bengaluru’s Thanisandra locality, under the jurisdiction of Hennur police. The suspect, Shivam Sahane, hails from Kushinagar and had been living with his wife Sumana for six months.

Reports suggest the couple frequently argued, mainly due to Shivam’s excessive drinking habits. During a heated exchange earlier in the week, he is believed to have struck Sumana. Following this incident, she went to sleep in another room. Shivam claimed he found her lifeless upon returning home from work the next day.

Instead of notifying authorities, he stayed in the house with her body for a day, reportedly cooking and consuming food nearby. He even contemplated disposing of the body but abandoned the idea out of fear. The next morning, he fled the scene.

The house owner, N Mahesh, became suspicious after a strong odor began emanating from the apartment. Upon investigation, he alerted the police on Thursday. Authorities found Sumana’s body, which showed no major visible injuries but did have signs of internal trauma, possibly from a forceful impact.

A case of homicide has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Shivam was apprehended soon after the complaint and is currently under investigation. Police are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the precise cause of death.
