BENGALURU: In a major breakthrough, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended Jagadish, alias Jagga, the prime accused in the brutal killing of notorious rowdy Biklu Shivu. The arrest took place shortly after midnight at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, ending a month-long manhunt.

High-profile arrest and transfer to Bengaluru

Jagga was flown to Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday morning, arriving around 8:30 am, where CID officials escorted him under tight security. Following a routine medical check-up, he underwent preliminary interrogation before being presented at a magistrate’s residence in Koramangala.

The court has remanded him to 10 days of police custody, allowing investigators to question him about his escape route, overseas connections, and alleged role as the mastermind behind Shivu’s murder.

Fugitive trail across Southeast Asia

Investigators believe Jagga fled India via Chennai immediately after the July 15 killing and travelled through multiple Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia, Thailand and Sri Lanka.

A Red Corner Notice was issued through Interpol to aid in international tracking. CID officials are now scrutinising his travel records, identifying accomplices, and piecing together how he managed to evade capture for over a month.

Murder that shocked Bengaluru

Biklu Shivu, a well-known figure in Bengaluru’s underworld, was ambushed and hacked to death near his Bharathinagar residence. The violent nature of the killing and allegations of political involvement drew widespread attention.

Initially, local police arrested 16 suspects, but the case’s complexity and potential high-level links prompted a handover to CID.

Political angle under investigation

In a sensational twist, Shivu’s mother accused KR Puram MLA Byrathi Basavaraj of involvement in her son’s murder. The MLA has since been interrogated multiple times by investigators, though no formal charges have been filed.

Next steps in probe

CID officials are expected to focus on:

  • Retracing Jagga’s network of support during his escape

  • Identifying the conspiracy chain and financial backers

  • Corroborating his role with forensic and witness evidence

  • A senior CID officer confirmed that more arrests are likely as the probe deepens into the criminal nexus and political overtones of the case.
