Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday spearheaded a protest in New Delhi, targeting the BJP over alleged voter theft in the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency during the 2024 polls. The rally, organised by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) at Freedom Park, was backed by senior party leaders.
AICC president and Rajya Sabha Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge urged party workers to wage a “do or die” fight, likening it to the Quit India Movement, to oust the Modi government, which he accused of coming to power through “vote stealing.” Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah echoed the demand, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should resign as he “lacks the moral authority” to govern.
While the Congress initially planned to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday, the strategy shifted. INDIA alliance MPs will instead visit the ECI headquarters in New Delhi on Monday, signalling unity in their campaign against alleged electoral malpractice.
Reaffirming his claims, Rahul Gandhi called his exposé “100 per cent true” and challenged the ECI to provide ten years’ worth of electronic voter lists and polling station footage. “If they refuse, it will prove they are aiding the BJP,” he alleged, brandishing a copy of the Constitution.
He also criticised the ECI for demanding an affidavit from him, arguing that he had already sworn an oath in Parliament. Rahul accused the Commission of hiding voter data by shutting down websites in several states to avoid public scrutiny
