Bengaluru: A road rage incident on the Mysuru–Bengaluru highway has sparked concern after a group of men allegedly assaulted a car driver travelling with his family following a dispute over overtaking. Police have arrested three accused and launched a search for the remaining suspects.

The incident occurred near Maddur at around 9.58 pm on Sunday and was captured on the dashcam of a vehicle travelling behind the victim’s car.

Driver attacked in front of family

According to police, the victim was travelling with his mother, wife and child when five to six men allegedly chased and stopped his Alto car.

The 52-second dashcam video reportedly shows the group surrounding the vehicle and demanding that the driver open the door. Moments after he stepped out, the men allegedly began assaulting him.

The victim’s wife was heard screaming for help, drawing the attention of passing motorists and local residents, who rushed to the spot and intervened, bringing the assault to an end.

Three accused arrested

Police said three of the accused have been taken into custody and are being questioned, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspects.

A case has been registered at the Maddur Police Station under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including charges relating to unlawful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt, assault, criminal intimidation and offences committed with common intention.

Dashcam footage aids investigation

Investigators said the dashcam footage has become a key piece of evidence in the case and is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over road rage incidents on Karnataka’s highways. Police have urged motorists to remain calm during traffic disputes and report confrontations immediately instead of engaging in violence.

Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the remaining accused.
