Bengaluru: A 22-year-old tractor driver has been arrested for allegedly killing his 11-month-old daughter following a domestic quarrel with his wife and later attempting to portray the child’s death as an accidental fall, police said.

The incident occurred on June 9 at Kitaganur village under the jurisdiction of the Avalahalli Police Station in Bengaluru.

Claimed the child died in an accidental fall

According to police, the accused, identified as Shekhappa, a native of Yadgir district, initially claimed that his infant daughter, Renuka, had accidentally fallen, leading to her death.

However, investigators grew suspicious after inconsistencies emerged during the inquiry. A detailed investigation and forensic findings reportedly contradicted his version of events.

Police allege that the accused killed the child following a heated argument with his wife before trying to mislead investigators by presenting the incident as an accident.

Investigation uncovered alleged murder

During the course of the investigation, police gathered evidence that led them to conclude that the child’s death was not accidental. Based on the findings, Shekhappa was taken into custody and arrested.

Authorities said the exact sequence of events was reconstructed through witness statements and scientific evidence collected during the investigation.

Police have registered a case and are continuing further inquiries to establish all the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Domestic violence concerns highlighted

The tragic case has once again highlighted the devastating consequences of domestic disputes and violence within families. Police have urged people facing personal or family conflicts to seek counselling and legal assistance rather than resorting to violence.

The accused has been remanded to judicial custody, and further legal proceedings are underway. The allegations against him will be examined during the trial
