Bengaluru: City-based Sharath Ashok was presented with a Guinness World Record certificate for being part of the team that hoisted the largest national flag in the sea waters of Swaraj Dweep in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lieutenant Governor Admiral D K Joshi presented the certificate to Sharath on Friday.
200 divers carried the Tricolour underwater
The record-setting feat took place on May 2 near Swaraj Dweep, formerly known as Havelock Island. Around 200 scuba divers carried the Indian Tricolour into the sea and unveiled it underwater.
The giant flag measured 60 metres by 40 metres, covering an area of 2,400 square metres.
The divers were assisted by personnel from the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, police and forest department during the event.
A proud moment for Sharath Ashok
Sharath is the son of Karnataka Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka, who expressed pride over his son’s participation in the record-setting event.
R Ashoka said the achievement reflected the extraordinary courage, dedication, discipline and hard work shown by Sharath and the entire team in taking the national flag into the ocean.
The underwater display created a Guinness World Record for displaying a giant national flag in sea waters, marking a significant tribute to the Tricolour.
The presentation of the certificate to Sharath adds another proud moment to the achievement, which brought together hundreds of divers and personnel from various departments for the unique display of national pride.
