The death of a 19-year-old BTech student following a fall from a hostel building in Yelahanka New Town has sparked serious questions, with the family alleging inconsistencies in the account provided by the institution.
Incident under investigation
The student, identified as Lakshya Mishra, a second-year student at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, reportedly fell from the ninth floor of his hostel building in Govindapura around 1.30 am on Tuesday.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Family raises concerns
The student’s father, Anjani Kumar Mishra, has alleged discrepancies between the institution’s version of events and what he observed.
He stated that he was informed his son had fallen from a window, but questioned the claim, saying the window appeared too narrow. He also expressed doubts based on the condition of the body, alleging that the injuries did not match a fall from such a height.
Police probe ongoing
Police have registered a case of unnatural death based on the father’s complaint and have begun an investigation. Officials said CCTV footage shows the student walking alone on the ninth floor shortly before the incident.
Authorities added that it is too early to draw conclusions, and multiple angles are being examined.
Institution yet to respond
Police are also questioning faculty members as part of the inquiry. The institution has not issued an official statement on the matter so far.
Call for clarity and transparency
The incident has raised concerns about student safety and transparency in handling such cases. The family has demanded a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death case.
