The tragic domestic cylinder explosion that rocked Wilson Garden in south-east Bengaluru on August 15 has now claimed three lives. On Monday, a mother and daughter—both undergoing treatment for severe burns—succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll from the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Kasturiamma (30), a domestic worker, and her eight-year-old daughter Kayal, both natives of Tamil Nadu. Earlier, 10-year-old Mubarak was killed on the day of the blast, which also left several others injured.

The explosion occurred at around 8 am inside Kasturiamma’s home in Chinnayanpalya, a densely populated neighbourhood. The impact was so powerful that it damaged over 16 surrounding houses, according to police officials.

Doctors at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health confirmed that Kayal, who had suffered 35% burns, passed away around 5 pm on Monday. Her mother, who had 40% burn injuries, died later the same evening at Victoria Hospital.

Investigators revealed that while receiving treatment, Kasturiamma had told police she had switched off the LPG cylinder before going to bed. Authorities have since registered a case against the LPG company responsible for supplying the cylinder.

The Adugodi police have filed charges under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) and Section 125 (endangering human life through rash or negligent conduct) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials are now awaiting reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) team, which collected samples from the site to determine the cause of the blast.
