Ahead of the Valentine’s Day weekend, hotel room prices across the city have witnessed a noticeable rise, although demand in parts of the Central Business District (CBD) remains below expectations.

A popular hotel chain has increased its double occupancy tariff to ₹5,200 at its property on MG Road — nearly ₹2,000 above the usual rate. Similar price hikes have been observed in Halasuru and Indiranagar.

“Since it is both Valentine’s Day and a weekend, prices are naturally higher. People do not hesitate to spend a little extra on such occasions,” a hotel manager said.

CBD hotels report lukewarm response

Despite the tariff revision, several premium hotels in the CBD remained underbooked until Friday evening. Staff members noted that compared to 2023, demand this year has been comparatively subdued.

“Usually, by now, we would be fully booked. Even our Valentine’s Day party has not received the expected response,” an employee from a premium MG Road hotel shared.

Outskirts see stronger demand

In contrast, hotels on the city’s outskirts have reported better occupancy. A property in Devanahalli had only two vacant rooms left for February 14 and 15, following a surge in online bookings. The double occupancy tariff there stands at ₹3,500 — about ₹1,000 higher than average.

Meanwhile, some hotels in Whitefield and Richmond Town have reportedly introduced additional guest policies. Staff at select properties confirmed that unmarried couples are not being allowed to check in, with proof of marriage being requested as a precautionary measure.

With celebrations underway, the weekend appears to present a mixed picture — premium pricing in the heart of the city but stronger demand on the outskirts.
