A 33-year-old woman from West Bengal, residing in East Bengaluru, has alleged that she was sexually harassed by an unidentified man while walking her dog in Domlur Second Stage on November 1. The incident occurred around 11:55 am on 5th Main Road, Indiranagar, when the accused allegedly flashed at her and acted obscenely in public.

According to her complaint filed with the Indiranagar police, the woman was taking her pet for a walk, as part of her daily routine, when she heard someone call out “Madam” from behind. Turning around, she saw a man, believed to be in his 30s, wearing a brown T-shirt and grey zip-style shorts.

Accused fled after flashing at victim

The complainant said the man stared at her, flashed at her, and continued behaving obscenely despite noticing her shock. “I froze for a few seconds and could not react. He continued to behave indecently,” the woman stated in her complaint.

Feeling unsafe, she ran back home with her dog and later informed her sister and a male friend about the incident. She filed a formal complaint with the Indiranagar police the following day.

Police launch probe, scan CCTV footage

A senior police officer said the incident took place in a relatively busy neighbourhood during daytime, making the behaviour even more shocking. “We are analysing CCTV footage from cameras in and around 5th Main Road, Domlur Second Stage, to identify and trace the accused,” the officer said.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under Section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Growing concern over street harassment

Residents in the area have raised concerns over the increasing number of such incidents in East Bengaluru’s residential localities, particularly during early morning and late evening hours when fewer people are around.

Women’s rights groups have also urged police to increase patrolling and surveillance in inner lanes of Indiranagar, Domlur, and nearby areas to ensure public safety.

The survivor, who works at a private firm, is reportedly shaken but safe. Police said she will be provided counselling support if required.

The investigation is underway to identify the accused based on CCTV footage and witness accounts.
