Chamarajpet police have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing and misusing her friend’s private photographs and threatening to make them public after a fallout over a personal relationship.

The accused, identified as Shwetha, is alleged to have targeted her friend after learning that the latter maintained a friendly relationship with her boyfriend. According to police, the situation gradually escalated into a bitter personal dispute between the two women.

Photos allegedly obtained without consent

Investigators said Shwetha allegedly gained access to her boyfriend’s mobile phone and obtained private photographs of her friend without the woman’s knowledge or consent.

Police further alleged that some of the photographs were sent to the victim’s husband, leading to serious tensions within the family and causing emotional distress.

The victim later reported receiving threats from the accused, who allegedly claimed to possess additional private photographs and warned that they would be circulated on social media platforms.

Complaint leads to arrest

Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s husband, the Chamarajpet police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and launched an investigation.

The accused was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.

Obscene photographs recovered

During the investigation, police reportedly recovered several obscene and private photographs from Shwetha’s mobile phone. Officials are examining the digital evidence to determine how the images were obtained and whether any additional offences were committed.

Sources also indicated that photographs of certain political figures were found on the device. Investigators are now verifying the origin of those images and examining whether they are connected to any other cases.

Police said the accused’s background and digital activities are being scrutinised as part of the ongoing probe.

Further investigation is underway.
