Tumakuru Police have arrested a YouTuber on charges of allegedly uploading a defamatory video targeting Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara and Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner Shubha Kalyan.
The accused, identified as Brahmananda Reddy, was taken into custody after police registered a case over a video uploaded on a YouTube channel named Detective Legend.
Police allege video contained defamatory content
According to police, the video, titled “DCM Parameshwar Love Story”, came to their notice after an official attached to the social media monitoring team of the New Extension Police Station identified it during routine surveillance.
Police alleged that the 17-minute video contained abusive and defamatory remarks against the Deputy Chief Minister and the Deputy Commissioner. Authorities further stated that the content had the potential to spread false information and disturb public order.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Electronic devices seized
Following the arrest, Brahmananda Reddy was taken into police custody for questioning.
Investigators have seized his mobile phone, laptop and other electronic devices as part of the probe. The devices will undergo forensic examination to determine the origin of the content and gather additional evidence.
Investigation underway
Police said the investigation is continuing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the creation and publication of the video. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified or misleading content on social media, warning that the circulation of false information may attract legal action under applicable law
