Kmf To Launch Nandini Idli And Dosa Batter In Bengaluru

The dosa-idli war in Bengaluru’s tech hub is set to heat up with the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) planning to launch Nandini idli and dosa batter soon. KMF managing director MK Jagadish revealed that the ready-to-cook batter will hit the market in two months, aiming to capture the city’s bustling market currently dominated by brands like iD, Asal, and MTR.

“We already offer a wide range of products such as milk, bread, buns, ghee, butter, curd, cheese, buttermilk, and yogurt. Now, we’re adding idli and dosa batter to our lineup. We hope it will be popular among Bengaluru’s large working population, especially techies who need quick breakfast options,” Jagadish told Moneycontrol.

The Nandini batter will be enriched with whey protein powder to enhance taste and nutritional value. Initial trials have shown positive feedback. KMF recently invited tenders for manufacturing and supplying the batter, aiming to produce 109,000 kg annually in 450-gram and 900-gram packets. The tender process is expected to conclude by July.

The selected manufacturer must operate within Bengaluru and adhere to KMF’s specifications, including sourcing whey protein powder from KMF. The batter will have a nine-day shelf life and meet strict microbiological standards. The highest bidder will secure the contract, overseeing production, packaging, and retail distribution under the Nandini brand.

Nandini continues to expand its product offerings and market presence, recently sponsoring cricket teams in the T20 World Cup and launching a whey-based energy drink, Nandini Splash.
