Mandya is currently the center of a significant employment initiative with the ‘Mandya to India’ job fair, aimed at connecting job-seeking youth with potential employers. Spearheaded by Union Minister for Heavy Industry and Steel, H. D. Kumaraswamy, the two-day event is taking place at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Stadium on October 18 and 19.
The job fair has attracted over 150 leading companies from various sectors, offering more than 3,000 job opportunities. Notable participants include Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), Lloyds Metals, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), and Jindal Steel, with on-site direct recruitment drives. Additionally, key players from the automobile industry and representatives from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force are engaging with potential candidates at their stalls.
Kumaraswamy emphasized Mandya’s strong educational institutions and abundant talent, stating, “Many young graduates seek employment opportunities, and this job fair is designed to cater to their needs.” He noted that while he has individually assisted many youths seeking job placements, the job fair represents a more substantial solution, aiming to secure employment for at least 2,500 youth, thereby benefiting their families and communities.
The event also underscores the government’s commitment to sustainability, particularly in promoting electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce carbon emissions. Kumaraswamy revealed that Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is offering job opportunities specifically for engineering graduates in related fields. Furthermore, he announced plans to establish a dedicated wing within his ministry to provide ongoing support for job seekers, ensuring continued assistance beyond the fair.
This job fair not only aims to enhance employment prospects but also serves as a critical step in strengthening the local economy by connecting local talent with nationwide opportunities.
