Amazon India to Relocate HQ Near Bengaluru Airport Amid Cost-Cutting Efforts
Amazon India plans to move its headquarters from the World Trade Centre in Bengaluru to a more economical location near Kempegowda International Airport, as part of its expense-reduction strategy, according to a Mint report.
The existing office, located in the World Trade Centre since Amazon India’s inception, spans 18 out of 30 floors, housing around 5,300 employees. The new site, managed by Sattva, offers a significantly lower rent—less than one-third of the current cost—and is just a 15-minute drive from the airport. The transition is expected to be finalized by April 2026.
Amazon has not yet commented on this development, but reports highlight that the shift aligns with broader trends of businesses cutting overhead costs amidst financial pressures. In recent years, numerous global corporations and Indian startups have implemented measures like layoffs and office downsizing to optimize expenses.
For instance, startups like Kuku FM, Beepkart, and 1% Club recently announced job cuts. Beepkart also halved its store count to reduce expenditures. Similarly, Freshworks, a Nasdaq-listed SaaS company, disclosed plans to cut 13% of its global workforce—about 660 roles—as part of its restructuring effort to boost efficiency.
As businesses navigate economic challenges, such cost-saving moves reflect the growing need to balance growth with financial prudence.
