Vietnamese electric vehicle giant VinFast, gearing up for its Indian debut, has recruited its first batch of 200 polytechnic students for its upcoming EV manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

Announcing the development on Wednesday, the company said this marks the beginning of its local hiring initiative, which aims to employ over 3,500 people in a phased manner over the next five years. The recruitment was supported by the district administration, the Tamil Nadu government’s Naan Mudhalvan skill development programme, and the State Industries Department.

VinFast revealed that 80% of its future workforce will comprise fresh graduates and trainees from nearby communities, with the remaining 20% being seasoned Indian and international professionals from the automotive sector.

The selected students are currently undergoing rigorous training under the guidance of both Vietnamese and Indian experts to meet global automotive manufacturing standards.

A senior Naan Mudhalvan official stated, “We design our skill development courses in alignment with industry requirements and continuously upgrade them to ensure students are job-ready. The training played a key role in helping the polytechnic students clear the VinFast selection process.”

VinFast’s entry into India marks a major step in the country’s growing EV ecosystem and opens up significant employment opportunities for the youth in the southern region.
