In a dramatic police operation, a married couple, two delivery executives, and a butcher were arrested in Gurugram for allegedly selling illegal meat online. The arrests followed the discovery of over 30 kg of banned meat at a housing society near Sohna, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The police registered an FIR at Bhondsi Police Station after the meat was found in sacks brought to the Global Heights Society in Dhunela village. According to the police, two delivery executives arrived at the society early on Sunday, carrying the suspicious sacks. Upon inspection, the guards found the bags contained meat wrapped in black plastic. The meat was allegedly sourced from Nuh and intended for online sale.
The couple residing in Tower 5 of the society, identified as Mukhtar and his wife, were arrested after questioning. Police said Mukhtar, originally from Bengal, was involved in transporting the meat from Rozka Meo in Nuh to supply it in Gurugram through delivery executives. The two delivery agents, who were wearing Swiggy uniforms, were also apprehended.
A butcher named Asgar, involved in the illegal meat supply chain, was later arrested. Meanwhile, a few members of the Gau Raksha Dal, who arrived at the scene, alleged that the couple had been involved in sourcing and selling banned meat from Nuh.
The police have sent the meat for testing to confirm its origin, and further investigation is ongoing. Mukhtar’s wife was granted bail, while the rest remain in judicial custody.
