In a heartbreaking scene, students from a government school in Munishettidoddy, under Shettahalli Gram Panchayat in Hanur taluk, were forced to plead with local authorities for toilets and drinking water.
Despite repeated assurances from public representatives about improving sanitation and infrastructure, the promises have remained empty words. The school, attended by around 20 children, is in severe disrepair.
With no functioning toilets, students are compelled to defecate in the open. The crumbling classrooms have left seven children studying in the teacher’s room, while the remaining thirteen squeeze into a partially repaired space.
The headmaster has already submitted formal requests to the Gram Panchayat, seeking basic amenities like restrooms and safe water supply, but no action has been taken.
“It is ironic that leaders who speak loudly about child rights remain silent about such neglect,” said social activist Snehajeevi Raj.
He called on the district administration to intervene without delay and urged MLA M.R. Manjunath to pay attention to the plight of poor students.
Residents hope officials will act swiftly to restore dignity and proper learning conditions for these children.
