Mangaluru: As 2025 is being observed as a Jubilee Year symbolising renewal, hope and togetherness, the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) unit of St Thomas the Apostle Church, Nirkan, organised Nathalancho Jublev 2025, celebrating the spirit of Christmas in a meaningful and joyful manner.

The programme, held at the St Thomas Church Hall, Nirkan, commenced at 5.30 pm and brought together youth and parishioners in an atmosphere of unity, cultural harmony and festive cheer.

Festive procession and inauguration

The celebration began with a small procession from the entrance of the hall, accompanied by Christmas Santa, setting a joyful and vibrant tone for the evening. The formal programme opened with a warm welcome by Arwin Fernandes, President of ICYM Nirkan Unit, who greeted the dignitaries and the gathered audience. As a mark of respect, roses were presented to the guests.

The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial cutting of the Christmas cake.

Dignitaries grace the occasion

The programme was presided over by Rev. Fr Anil Roshan Lobo, Parish Priest and Director of ICYM Nirkan. He was joined on the dais by Vincent Bennis, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council and Animator of ICYM Nirkan; Austin Lobo, Co-ordinator of Commissions, Nirkan Church; Primal Pinto, PRO and AMCHO Yuvak Representative of ICYM Bantwal Deanery and representative of ICYM Nirkan Unit; along with Arwin Fernandes, President, and Melvita Crasta, Secretary of ICYM Nirkan Unit.

Cultural programmes and auctions

The celebration featured a variety of cultural programmes, including carol singing, dances and skits presented by different wards of the parish and youth organisations. One of the major highlights of the evening was an attractive auction featuring items such as Christmas cake, a wine bottle, a rabbit and the saree of Vailankanni Mai, which drew enthusiastic participation from the audience.

Prize distribution and drama

As part of the celebrations, prizes were distributed to the winners of Christmas Kheladwari Ekvot 2025. The winners of the Star Competition were also announced and honoured, adding excitement and encouragement among participants.

The programme concluded with a drama titled “Mogan Ason Borren, Kone naka mula?”, performed by talented artistes of Nirkan. The play conveyed a meaningful social message and was well appreciated by the audience.

Vote of thanks and conclusion

The vote of thanks was proposed by Melvita Crasta, Secretary of ICYM Nirkan Unit, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the celebration. The entire programme was ably compered by Shavil Veigas and Lisha Lasrado, whose lively coordination added charm to the evening.

Christmas cake and malt were distributed to all present. Nathalancho Jublev 2025 stood out as a memorable celebration reflecting the true spirit of Christmas and the Jubilee Year through faith, fellowship and joyful participation.
