Dubai: The Karwar Diocese faithful in the UAE marked a historic milestone as more than 90 members representing 69 parishes and seven deaneries officially launched the Karwar Diocese Dubai Community (KDDC). The inauguration brought together the diaspora in a shared commitment to preserve their cultural roots, strengthen community identity and support one another while living abroad.
The evening also featured the unveiling of the official KDDC logo and the community’s first T-shirt/Jersey, symbolic of unity, pride and belonging. To celebrate the launch, the community hosted Christmas Saanj 2025, a festive event that blended celebration with purpose, bringing together families and well-wishers.
Distinguished guests grace the inaugural celebration
The event was honoured by Fr Victor Fernandes, Spiritual Director of St Mary’s Mangalorean Community, Dubai (SMMC), and Mr Joseph Mathias, businessman, philanthropist, Mayura Awardee and Coordinator of SMMC. Senior KDDC members Mr Epipan Miranda, Mr Santosh D’Souza, Ms Marceline Fernandes and Ms Sevanthi also presided on stage.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Victor Fernandes encouraged members to remain active in community initiatives and church life, emphasising that faith thrives through shared service. Mr Joseph Mathias spoke of the strength found in unity and collaboration, assuring continued support for the newly formed community.
Meaningful moments mark the beginning of a new chapter
The programme opened with a welcome by Santosh Miranda, who reflected on the importance of establishing KDDC. An uplifting prayer led by Mr Sabastian Rodrigues and his team set the tone with gratitude and hope.
Prajwal Lopes presented the mission and vision of KDDC, describing it as a home away from home for every member of the Karwar Diocese in the UAE. The evening was compered by Doris Lopez, who guided the celebration with elegance and ease.
A symbolic cake-cutting ceremony and the lighting of the Christmas tree, joined by all chief guests, formally marked the beginning of this new community journey. The celebrations continued with joyful carol singing, interactive games and community activities that brought laughter, participation and warmth.
Santosh Dsouza delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging dignitaries, members and the KDDC core team for their dedicated efforts in making the inaugural celebration a success.
A united community looks to the future
The evening concluded with a fellowship dinner, offering members a space to connect and deepen relationships. A short feedback session invited suggestions, reinforcing KDDC’s commitment to collaborative growth, transparency and community-led development.
With its official inauguration, KDDC stands ready to evolve into a vibrant, service-oriented and culturally rooted organisation—one that honours its heritage while building a meaningful and supportive presence for Karwar Diocese Catholics in the UAE.
