Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann, a premier Konkani cultural organisation celebrating its 40th anniversary, will host the muhurtham and logo launch of the First World Konkani Music Mega Convention on April 10, 2026, at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar.

The mega convention is scheduled to be held in Mangaluru from November 3 to 15, 2026, bringing together thousands of Konkani music enthusiasts and artists from across India and abroad.

Grand launch with eminent dignitaries

The muhurtham and logo launch programme will be held at 4:00 pm, with Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Shri U.T. Khader as the Chief Guest.

The logo of the convention will be unveiled by Shri Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister for Health and Family Welfare and District In-charge Minister of Dakshina Kannada. Other dignitaries attending as Guests of Honour include Shri Vedavyas Kamath (MLA, Mangaluru South), Shri Ivan D’Souza (MLC), and Goan artiste Shri Michael Gracias.

Mega convention with global participation

The First World Konkani Music Mega Convention aims to be a landmark cultural event, with participation from over 6,000 singers representing Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, and other regions, including international participants.

A major highlight of the event will be an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by multiple singers, spanning 12 days, 12 hours, and 12 minutes.

During this marathon, participants from diverse communities—including Christian, GSB, Daldi, Kudmi, Kharvi, Siddi, and Syrian Orthodox—will perform nearly 5,000 Konkani songs.

Cultural programmes and honours

The convention will also feature a series of music-related symposiums, exhibitions, and cultural programmes. A Hall of Fame will be set up to honour veterans who have made significant contributions to Konkani music.

The event is being organised as a tribute to Eric Ozario, recognising his immense contribution to the promotion and preservation of Konkani music and culture.

Mandd Sobhann, known for its efforts in preserving Konkani language and culture, is spearheading the event as part of its milestone 40-year celebrations (1986–2026).

The organising team includes Louis J. Pinto (President), Roy Castelino (Pirjent, Kalaangann), Joel Pereira (Music Director of the convention), Stany Alvares (Coordinator), Naveen Lobo (Vice President), and Ronald Crasta (Secretary).
