On September 16, the YCS group from St Sebastian Church, Bendur, visited the De Mercedes Paneer children’s orphanage as part of their outreach programme. The experience was both heartwarming and humbling. Upon arrival, they were welcomed with bright smiles and excited eyes, and soon found themselves laughing and playing with the children.
The visit was filled with games, stories, and shared moments of joy. However, the group also witnessed the children’s difficult realities—abandonment and a longing for love. One girl clung to them, while a young boy shared his dream of becoming a doctor. Every child had a unique story of resilience.
As the group departed, they felt a mix of emotions—sadness, but also hope. The children’s strength and optimism left a lasting impact, reminding everyone of the importance of connection, love, and support. They handed over gifts collected by their parish during the nine-day novena for Mother Mary.
The programme was expertly organized by YCS animators Blossom Rego and Anita Lobo, with support from parish priest Fr Walter D’Souza and assistant parish priest Fr Lawrence Cutinha. Their leadership inspired the youth to fully engage in this meaningful initiative, fostering a deep sense of service.
