A 34-year-old software engineer from Theni, identified as Hari Pradeep, was arrested on Saturday by the Dindigul district police with assistance from the cyber crime wing of Delhi police. Pradeep had been on the run for over nine years, charged with sending obscene messages to a woman in Delhi using a SIM card he had stolen nearly a decade ago.
The SIM card, originally registered to Chinna, a local DMK functionary, was lost during a political meeting in 2015. Shortly after, obscene pictures were sent to a woman in Delhi from the stolen SIM, prompting an FIR to be filed. The investigation revealed that Chinna had lost his SIM at the event, and his advocate later provided evidence to the Delhi High Court, confirming the loss.
Authorities determined that the stolen SIM was being used for immoral activities by unknown individuals, leading Chinna to file complaints with both Delhi and Batlagundu police stations. Despite extensive investigation, the case remained unsolved for years until Tamil Nadu police located Pradeep in Allinagaram, Theni. He was arrested, brought before the Dindigul court, and subsequently handed over to Delhi police for further legal proceedings.
