In a troubling incident in Malad West, police have arrested Shehjaz Pathan, a 28-year-old employee of an online service platform, for stealing gold ornaments valued at ₹5.15 lakh from the home of Daw Samdup, 39, during a scheduled haircut on November 2.

According to the FIR, Samdup booked a haircut through Urban Company on November 1, which prompted Pathan to arrange a visit to his residence the following day. When Pathan arrived around 12:30 PM, he was led to Samdup’s bedroom for the service. While cutting Samdup’s hair, Pathan noticed some dark spots on his face and recommended a facial treatment. Samdup consented to this additional service, during which Pathan applied creams and placed a cloth over Samdup’s eyes, instructing him not to remove it.

While Samdup remained with his eyes covered, he heard a noise that resembled someone opening a cupboard but dismissed it as an accidental bump from Pathan. Once the treatment was completed, Pathan took his payment and left.

It was only later that Samdup discovered his cupboard was open and realized that several gold items were missing, including a 35-gram gold chain, a 25-gram gold chain, and a 21-gram gold bangle. After confirming with his mother that she had not taken the ornaments, he suspected Pathan’s involvement and reported the theft to the police. A case has been filed under section 305(a) (theft in dwelling houses) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
